Cardiopulmonary Science Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet the following ETSU (refer to catalog) and program admission requirements:

  • Maintain a college GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale (developmental studies grades/quality points excluded);
  • Complete prerequisite courses with a minimum of "C-" or better in each course within the first two attempts;
  • Complete 16 credit hours (minimum) from the general education core (NOT including prerequisite courses) maintaining a 2.5 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale, and,
  • Meet specific health and/or essential functions.
Cardiopulmonary Science Information Packet
The Department of Allied Health Sciences at East Tennessee State University welcomes the opportunity to provide information regarding the Bachelors of Science Degree in Allied Health (BSAH with a concentration in Cardiopulmonary Science).

Additional information has been enclosed regarding admission requirements and curriculum. Please read this material carefully See web links at bottom of letter). It is imperative that you complete all prerequisite course work and other admission requirements prior to concentration admission. If you have not already done so, please call our Admissions Office at 423-547-4900 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM to schedule an advisement appointment with one of the CPSC faculty members as soon as possible.

Admission to the BSAH professional curriculum is a competitive process and separate from the student’s admission to ETSU.

A limited number of students will be admitted annually to the professional phase. The next class will begin Fall 2006. To gain concentration (professional phase) admittance, all admission and academic requirements and health and technical standards must be satisfactorily completed. Allied health prerequisite classes (ALHE 2010 and 2020) will be offered during the summer session. Female applicants are advised that a pregnancy policy, inclusive of the NRC’s regulations regarding the declared pregnant student (declared pregnant worker), and student matriculation options have been adopted. All applicants meeting published academic program requirements will be scheduled for an interview with the admissions committee.

Allied Health classes and laboratories are scheduled through the Department of Allied Health Sciences located at the Nave Center in Elizabethton. Additional courses (i.e., anatomy and physiology, speech) are available on the main and/or other area campuses. Clinical education is available at several health agencies:

East Tennessee State University makes available to prospective students the ETSU Security Information Report. This annual report includes campus crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years and various campus policies concerning law enforcement, the reporting of criminal activity, and crime prevention programs.
