Are you a musician, an actor, a bluegrass fiddler, a cartoonist,
a sculptor? Whatever your means of artistic expression, we have a
home for you in the new Fine & Performing Arts Scholars Program of our new Honors College
at East Tennessee State University.
The Fine & Performing Arts Scholars Program at ETSU is a new and unique approach to educating artists of the 21st century. The program is designed to support an interdisciplinary group of student artists who will share the experience of learning about art together. You will share your artistic endeavors and part of your coursework with other arts scholars. You will work closely with exceptional faculty artists in a variety of areas. Through a unique Roving Artist’s program, you’ll be challenged to assist in projects across the university campus and region.
As an Fine & Performing Arts Scholar at ETSU, your choice of degree is not limited. But you will participate in an additional curriculum and maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.75. The following list describes the curriculum requirements of the Arts Scholars Program:
- Each semester, you will participate in a minimum of 10 hours of community service either on or off-campus. The Director of the program will approve your choice, although we hope you’ll consider art-related service activities.
- As a Freshman, you’ll enroll in a 1-credit hour course
each semester called the Honors Colloquium. Here you’ll
learn to share your experiences, learn new skills for how to survive
as an artist, and work with others to develop new projects. In
the spring, you and your student colleagues will enroll in Artistic
Vision (3 credit hours), a special interdisciplinary arts course.
- As a Sophomore and as a Junior, you’ll enroll in our Roving Artist course (2 credit hours each semester). Here you’ll join with your student colleagues to design, construct and perform projects across the university campus and local community.
- During your academic studies, you’ll fulfill an arts diversity requirement by enrolling in two courses from artistic areas other than your specialty.
- As a Senior, you’ll be back in Honors Colloquium to help the new freshmen class and work toward completion of your capstone senior project, including a written component and a public presentation
(Senior Honors Thesis - 6 credit hours).
This special curriculum is designed to challenge you to find your passion, test your potential, and help us advance the arts into a new, interdisciplinary form. |
