How do I…


Get an identification card?

Faculty/staff and temporary visitors’ ID cards are issued by the ID Office (423 439-8316) located on the 2nd level of the D. P. Culp University Center. In order to obtain an identification card, your host department must submit a written request to the ID Office. (Cost: $5). An ETSU ID card will provide visitors with use of the library, ability to obtain an email account, and access to other services on campus.


Open a bank account?

Go to a local bank. Some banks allow you to open an account with your Passport. Most of the banks require that you provide a Social Security Number, eventually. Some local banks are:

  • AmSouth
  • Bank of Tennessee
  • Greater Eastern Credit Union
  • Bank of America
  • BB&T
  • First Tennessee

Set up my e-mail account?

Before an email account can be created, you must first obtain a temporary visitors ETSU identification card (see above). Your host department must submit a request to the Office of Information Technology to create a computer account for you. Once such account has been created, you can activate your email account https://etsuis.etsu.edu/AccountActivation/ . For further information, please consult the Office of Information Technology web site: http://www.etsu.edu/oit/helpdesk/


Use the telephones on campus?

  • If you are calling an office from on campus or a student who lives on campus, press the last five digits of their telephone number.
  • If you want to call off campus, press the number 8 then the telephone number.

Buy groceries?

Kroger, located on N. State of Franklin, is within walking distance from campus. You can save money if you get and use a Kroger Card. You can get the card at the store and it is free, just ask a store employee for a Kroger card form.


Get something to eat?

  • Main Meal located on the 3 rd Level of the D. P. Culp Center
  • Quiznos, Chick-Fil-A, BucMart, Grill Works, and Izzys’s located on the 2 nd Level of the D. P. Culp Center
  • Java City and the Juice Bar located in the Cave, on the 1 st floor of the D. P. Culp Center
  • Burger King located in the Treehouse Snack Bar, between the Mini-Dome and Brooks Gym

How about some places to eat before the campus eateries open?

BucMart located on the 2nd level of D. P. Culp Center (with limited daily hours) and restaurants located on the East Side of Campus on W. Walnut Street, and many more located on State of Franklin, that are all within walking distance of ETSU.


Where can I go to get information about off-campus housing?

Where do I go if I am sick?

You can go to the http://www.choicecarenetwork.com and click on "providers" to locate a physician; ask someone or look in the Johnson City telephone directory (yellow pages) In case of emergency you can go to either the:

Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, 400 N. State of Franklin Rd., Johnson City (423) 431-6111 or North Side Hospital, 401 Princeton Rd., Johnson City, (423) 854-5600 or

call 911 for an ambulance.
