potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Vice Provost and Chief Student Affairs Officer for assisting in the administration of the Division of Student Affairs; representing the Vice Provost and Chief Student Affairs Officer in his/her absence; developing and maintaining retention programs primarily for freshman students including the Retention Management System, the Freshman Success Program, and the Early Semester Progress Report; managing the division's research efforts including research on entering and enrolled students as well as satisfaction surveys and service evaluations; directing orientation programs and the Preview ETSU program; directing the substance abuse education program; overseeing the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC); and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions -Develops and maintains retention programs including the Retention Management System, the Early Semester Progress Report, and the Freshman Success programs. -Develops, administers and reports research on entering and enrolled students. -Manages the division's research efforts including research on entering and enrolled students. -Participates in division decision making, planning and office policies and procedures. -Counsels students with personal and academic problems. -Serves on university standing committees, search committees, ad hoc committees, task forces and division committees. -Coordinates division computer programs including design, update, requests and changes. -Hears academic status appeals. -Directs orientation programs and the Preview ETSU program. -Oversees the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC). -Supervises administrative and support staff. Secondary Functions -Directs the substance abuse education program. -Serves on or chairs division committees related to continuous improvement efforts. -Represents Vice Provost and Chief Student Affairs Officer at meetings as needed. -Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities -Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws. -Knowledge of counseling theory and techniques, and the student personnel profession. -Knowledge of research methods and statistical analysis. -Knowledge of computers. -Knowledge of substance abuse prevention techniques and legal aspects of related offenses. -Ability to perform public speaking. -Ability to communicate effectively. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Supervises administrative and classified employees. Minimum Qualifications Doctorate degree in higher education, counseling, administration or related field required; at least five years experience in student affairs or related area.
