Position Title:  Assistant Director for Facilities and Operations

Function of Position

Responsible to the Director of Facilities and Operations for assisting in the management of Memorial Center, Brooks Gym, outdoor tennis complex, Mooney Field, outdoor track, and practice fields.  Special areas of responsibility include facility scheduling, home game and special event operations, contractual agreements, desktop publication of athletic brochures; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-        Assists in scheduling of facilities for all athletic, intramural, recreational and community events and disseminates this information to the university community.

-        Assists in the set-up and conversion of facilities for athletic events, convocation, physical education, intramurals, recreation, camps and conferences and special events.

-        Assists with all aspects of home game operations for all sports.

-        Executes a turf rehabilitation and maintenance program for all athletic fields.

-        Prepares all athletic facilities for practices and competition.

-        Assists the Director of Facilities and Operations in the implementation of the parking and traffic plan for athletic and special events.

-        Monitors facilities for structural, custodial and maintenance problems and coordinates routine and long-term maintenance projects.

-        Assists in implementing facility plans, policies and procedures.

-        Assists in the development and implementation of facility maintenance and security plans.

-        Operates mowers, trimmers, blowers, tractors, reel attachments, paint machines, forklift, and grasshopper machine.

-        Maintains tools and equipment and maintains and operates the irrigation system according to a pre-determined schedule.

-        Supervises event staff, parking attendants and student workers for set-up, conversion and operation of all sporting events and maintenance operations.

-        Coordinates work activities of part-time security personnel in Memorial Center and Brooks Gym.

Secondary Functions

-        Assists with solving routine problems.

-        Designs and publishes informational brochures relative to home game operations.

-        Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

-        Knowledge of conversion techniques for large multipurpose facility.

-        Knowledge of university athletics, recreation, and academics.

-        Knowledge of computers and various software programs.

-        Knowledge of university policies and procedures.

-        Knowledge of safety and fire regulations.

-        Knowledge of the maintenance and preparation of athletic fields.

-        Knowledge of tools and equipment used to perform assigned tasks.

-        Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written forms with all levels of employees and the public.

-        Ability to work weekends and off-hours.

-        Ability to meet deadlines and handle stressful situations.

-        Ability to initiate tasks as needed and complete tasks in a timely manner with a minimum of close supervision.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under the direct supervision of the Director for Facilities and Operations and the general supervision of the Athletics Director or designee.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; previous experience in athletics or recreation facilities operations preferred; possession of a valid driver's license required; knowledge of tools and equipment used to perform assigned tasks required; specialized training in the maintenance of athletic turf preferred.
