Function of Position

Responsible to the Assistant Vice President for Student Life and Leadership for providing leadership and support of student activities and student affairs programs; serving as liaison to student organizations; advising the campus programming board; supervising Greek Life; supporting the assistant vice president in all aspects of office administration as needed; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-Promotes increased student involvement in campus life.

-Serves as advisor to University Productions, and Homecoming Committee.

-Establishes a campus network of programming through multiple organizations.

-Updates and publicizes student organization policies, procedures and services.

-Serves as liaison to campus registered student organizations.

-Facilitates registration of new and continuing student organizations.

-Designs and implements training programs for student organization leaders and advisors.

-Prepares and monitors University Productions and Homecoming budgets.

-Supervises procedures and systems for record-keeping of student organization files, Focus program, as well as contracts, programs and events.

-Negotiates and processes performance contracts for University Productions, student government funded, and student affairs programs.

-Provides specialized training for members of University Productions.

-Supervises the Coordinator for Greek Life and Service Programs.

-Supervises Student Activities Graduate Assistant.

-Establishes and measures appropriate program and student needs assessments.

Secondary Functions

-Supports operation of the Center for Student Life and Leadership and serve in the absence of the Assistant Vice President.

-Assists in portfolio advisement for leadership minor.

-Assists with orientation presentation.

-Assists with promotion of Leadership Transcript.

-Serves on division and campus committees.

-Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

-Commitment to the mission and goals of East Tennessee State University and the Center for Student Life and Leadership.

-Knowledge of and experience with student activity programming.

-Knowledge of and ability to apply student development theory.

-Knowledge of principles and practices of organization administration.

-Knowledge of and experience with Greek Life and co-curricular service programs.

-Knowledge of student organization risk management policies and procedures.

-Knowledge of leadership theory and ability to teach related skills.

-Knowledge of educational outcome assessment and program evaluation.

-Knowledge of and experience with budget preparation and management.

-Ability to work autonomously as well as with a team.

-Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.

-Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

-Ability to lead and motivate students.

-Ability to perform basic management skills.

-Ability to organize and direct multiple activities simultaneously.

-Ability to identify, develop, implement and evaluate new student activity programs.

-Ability to organize large scale, complex programs often involving the coordination of personnel from various departments within the university and community.

-Ability to project and interpret co-curricular programs and activities as an integral part of the collegiate experience.

-Ability to work with computers and related software.

-Sensitivity to the cultural needs of students.

-A demonstrated personal and professional commitment to diversity and multiculturalism.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree with coursework and/or experience in student advisement, Greek Life, service programs, activities programming, communication, leadership and administration; four years experience required with two years experience in higher education programs, student activities preferred.
