potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations/Senior Woman Administrator for directing all Department of Intercollegiate Athletics facilities including scheduling, program and event coordination and maintenance and custodial oversight; developing, implementing and supervising policies and procedures for management, maintenance and security of all athletic facilities; establishing open lines of communication and assuring cooperation of various entities within the Office of Facilities Management to assure smooth operations of all athletic facilities; overseeing development and construction of new athletics facilities; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Recommends, implements and administers policies and procedures relative to the operation of all athletic facilities and events. - Coordinates reservation, rental and scheduling of facilities for intercollegiate athletics events, physical education classes, student affairs events, graduation ceremonies, off-campus users and outside events; serves as liaison with the Director of Camps and Conferences. - Coordinates with area Chamber's of Commerce and Visitor's Bureau to develop strategic initiatives and revenue opportunities using athletics facilities. - Supervises the conversion of Memorial Center for all athletic and special events. - Establishes a supervision schedule for the conduct of all athletics and special events held in athletic facilities. Personally supervises those events deemed to be of highest priority as determined by the Athletic Administration. - Develops and implements security policies and procedures for all athletic facilities in conjunction with public safety and other appropriate constituencies. - Develops and implements maintenance and custodial schedules for all athletic facilities. - Assists with development of short-range and long-range plans for facility renovations. - Supervises maintenance of grounds. - Supervises custodial services for athletic facilities and is responsible and accountable for cleanliness and maintenance of all athletic facilities. - Coordinates work orders with the Office of Facilities Management; follows up as needed to ensure that work is completed properly and in a timely manner. - Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen, student, faculty and staff inquiries and complaints. - Enforces city and university policies in the operation and use of the facilities. - Selects, trains, supervises, motivates and evaluates facilities personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies. - Maintains responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of all athletic facilities. Secondary Functions - Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of facility management. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. - Knowledge of facility management including maintenance and event scheduling, security and special set-ups. - Knowledge of a variety of athletic activities. - Knowledge of normal power equipment operation such as fork lifts and high lifts. - Knowledge of basic facility safety and security. - Knowledge of scheduling, planning and conversion techniques for large multi-purpose facilities. - Ability to determine recreational requirements for various events. - Ability to formulate schedules and plan events. - Ability to communicate effectively. - Ability to interact with the business community, the local and state media, and with alumni/supporters of university athletics. - Ability to supervise employees of lower classification. - Ability to make quick and fair decisions. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Supervises the Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations, Facilities Coordinator, and student workers. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred; five years experience in athletic facilities or recreational facilities management; experience in intercollegiate athletics, preferably at the Division I level preferred.
