Function of Position

Responsible to the Executive Director of University Relations for the overall operation of photographic services offered to the university community; providing black and white and color photographs to enhance student recruitment packages, news releases, general university and departmental publications, athletic publications, various displays, slide presentations, and a wide variety of other projects as needed; supervising portrait photography for the "Buccaneer" yearbook; producing and presenting up to three projector slide presentations as well as computer generated audio visual productions; providing and updating photographs for World Wide Web pages; supervising support staff and student employees; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Administers all activities of Photographic Services.

- Guides, directs and supervises support staff and student employees.

- Orders and maintains equipment and supplies.

- Prepares budget requests and allocations.

- Recommends pricing policies and procedures.

- Plans, coordinates and schedules photographic assignments.

- Photographs major university events and prepares photographs as needed.

- Provides photographs as needed for various university publications.

- Provides photographs as needed for news releases and for the faculty/staff newsletter.

- Photographs sporting events and prepares photographs for 16 NCAA programs.

- Provides photographs, coordinates, programs and presents final audio visual productions as needed.

- Provides assistance with digital imaging needs.

- Schedules and provides photographs for use on the World Wide Web pages.

Secondary Functions

- Maintains negative, proof, slide and general office files.

- Supervises photography for the "Buccaneer" yearbook; oversees portrait sessions and sales of portrait packages.

- Provides services for special departmental projects.

- Provides university community with personal photographic services on a charge basis.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of photographic systems and techniques needed for shooting, processing and printing all types of black/white and color photography.

- Knowledge of darkroom procedures.

- Knowledge of portrait, news, features, action, sports, nature, available light and other various types of photographic subjects.

- Knowledge of electronic imaging and presentation programs.

- Ability to use single and multiple flash photography and produce professional results under various situations.

- Ability to provide interesting and creative photographs in all situations.

- Ability to meet deadlines.

- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.

- Ability to effectively communicate.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with concentration in photography, photojournalism, or a related photographic area of concentration or a degree from a specialized photography institution or technical school required; two years working experience required.
