Position Title: Manager, Grant Accounting

Function of Position

Responsible to the Associate Vice President for Financial Services for directing and planning duties within the grant accounting department; training and supervising personnel within the department; interacting with faculty, staff and students; preparing year end and special reports; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Responsible for post award accounting of federal, state, and private grants and contracts.

- Develops procedures within the grant accounting department.

- Implements policy within the grant accounting department.

- Prepares grant financial reports.

- Plans, organizes and prioritizes grant accounting department duties.

- Works with state and federal officials and auditors on various projects.

- Supervises professional and support staff.

- Coordinates indirect cost rate proposals.

Secondary Functions

- Assists faculty and staff in understanding and implementing grant accounting procedures.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of current accounting principles.

- Knowledge of university, Tennessee Board of Regents, state and federal rules, regulations, procedures and accounting practices.

- Knowledge of financial reporting requirements of GASB, AICPA, NACUBO and the State of Tennessee.

- Knowledge of computers.

- Ability to work with a computerized on-line accounting system.

- Ability to effectively supervise employees.

- Ability to communicate effectively.

- Ability to prepare and analyze financial statements.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Supervises professional and support staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related area of concentration required; three years of accounting experience; three to five years of supervisory experience in a setting of higher education.
