potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Welfare for the total operation of the equipment room for 16 varsity sports including purchasing, inventory, distribution, maintenance and collection of all athletic equipment; coordinating departmental corporate contracts for apparel and equipment, billing and collections of all unreturned equipment, assignment of locker rooms to visiting teams and the total operation of motor pool vans; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Plans, organizes an initiates the ordering process for all athletic equipment within the proper time frames, utilizing the university purchasing procedures and coordinating with the Manager of Athletic Business and Ticket Operations. - Plans, maintains and tracks the athletic equipment budgets for 16 varsity sports. - Receives, stores, issues and distributes all athletic apparel, supplies and equipment in compliance with university and NCAA guidelines. - Prepares all athletic supplies and equipment for use at practices and games. - Keeps records of all apparel and equipment, performs custodial tasks, arranges storage space, packages and delivers supplies, and plans and supervises yearly inventory within university and NCAA guidelines. - Travels to away events as needed. - Supervises assistant equipment manager and student workers. - Remains in full compliance with NCAA, University, and Southern Conference rules. - Complies with all NCAA rules and regulations, and acknowledges this compliance as part of an annual evaluation process. - Signs an NCAA Compliance Statement annually. Secondary Functions - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of the state purchasing system as it relates to athletic equipment. - Ability to recognize different functions of equipment as used in different sports. - Ability to effectively choose the best equipment for the best price. - Ability to effectively communicate with coaches, staff, and athletes. - Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with coaches, staff and athletes. - Ability to effectively supervise employees of lower classifications. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred; three years experience in athletic equipment management or related area, preferably in a Division I athletic program; certified equipment manager by Athletic Equipment Managers Association preferred.
