potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Senior Associate Vice President/Dean of Students for directing the university Counseling Center; supervising personnel and operation of the Counseling Center; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Provides leadership to staff and university community on counseling and behavioral issues. - Informs Senior Associate Vice President/Dean of Students and division staff on issues and needs of students. - Supervises Counseling Center employees. - Directs operation and goal setting for the Counseling Center. - Recruits and selects staff members. - Supervises employee training programs. - Coordinates preparation of Counseling Center advertisement materials. - Maintains departmental budget. - Represents Counseling Center at various meetings. - Performs individual counseling. - Consults with staff regarding problem cases which they are counseling. - Makes referrals to other agencies. - Develops and presents programs to various groups. - Evaluates staff and center program. Secondary Functions - Teaches courses as required. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge and commitment to ethical and legal bases for counseling. - Knowledge of basic principles of counseling and psychotherapy. - Ability to develop and implement general Counseling Center policies and procedures. - Ability to communicate effectively to individuals or groups. - Ability to supervise and direct a staff of professional employees. - Ability to make presentations/reports. - Ability to select and interpret tests and inventories used to appraise students. - Ability to plan methods of marketing various programs and groups presented to students and staff. - Ability to plan and present group programs. - Ability to teach at the college level. - Ability to prepare and maintain departmental budgets. Supervision Given and Received Initiates broad programs under general direction working from policies and general objectives. Supervises professional and classified employees. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree in counseling and guidance, counseling, clinical psychology or related area of concentration; three to five years experience in college/university level counseling. Minimum certification as a Professional Counselor in Tennessee and/or National Certified Counselor by National Board of Certified Counselors; license eligible as counseling psychologist preferred.
