Function of Position

Responsible to the University President for performing a variety of administrative duties related to operations within the President's Office; supervises activities, office, and classified personnel; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Serves as liaison between the President and various groups or individuals having questions, complaints or problems.

- Prepares data concerning complaints and/or problems, for referral to Executive Assistant and/or President as necessary.

- Schedules appointments for the President.

- Approves all campus travel requests for the President.

- Makes arrangements for meetings, luncheons, dinners, and other special events.

- Monitors and reconciles expenditures of office funds.

- Composes some letters for President's signature.

- Works with Executive Assistant on special projects.

- Assists in preparation of special reports filed with the Tennessee Board of Regents.

Secondary Functions

- Opens and sorts mail.

- Makes travel arrangements for the President.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of office skills and procedures.

- Knowledge of Board and university regulations, policies, and guidelines.

- Knowledge of the academic and administrative structure of a university.

- Ability to communicate effectively with the public.

- Ability to effectively plan and organize a variety of functions/reports.

- Ability to meet deadlines.

- Ability to establish work priorities and delegate responsibilities.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in business, humanities, social sciences, or related area of concentration; three to five years of administrative support experience within an institution of higher education preferred.
