potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Associate Dean for Distance Education maintaining effective communication between the Distance Education administrative office and ITFS, fiber optic and compressed video receive site users; facilitating two-way communication, the transmission of data via facsimile and computer; assisting in the development of new receive sites; coordinating activities at specific sites; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Coordinates courier services between all receive sites and campus. - Provides pick-up and delivery services for academic units and Distance Education. - Obtains classroom facilitators and faculty assistants for day and night and ITFS classes at all sites except Kingsport. - Supervises facilitators and faculty assistants for day and night classes at all sites except Kingsport. - Develops and maintains site budgets. - Develops work schedules for all sites except Kingsport. - Coordinates schedules for system checks and/or tests at all sites except Kingsport. - Substitutes for site employees as needed. - Acts as liaison between instructors, students and site employees. - Makes regular site visits. - Assists and advises office staff regarding site needs; develops responses to the needs of the sites. - Works with off-campus center directors to coordinate Distance Education functions at sites. - Coordinates student assessment of Distance Education at all sites. Secondary Functions - Makes video appearances as needed. - Communicates with students relative to their enrollment in Distance Education classes. - Provides registration services for off-campus sites as needed. - Provides bookstore services for off-campus sites as needed. - Coordinates distribution of equipment for specific sites. - Develops and provides information about new sites for news releases. - Provides feedback information to staff; coordinates student's feedback to staff and instructors; coordinates communication services between the sites. - Works with Distance Education staff and the interactive television faculty to improve quality of instruction delivered via the ITFS and fiber optic systems. - Works with Distance Education staff in the planning, development and implementation of future applications and the expansion of ITFS, fiber optic and related systems and services. - Integrates interrelationships between self and teaching faculty. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of equipment operation at receive sites. - Knowledge of the geographic region of Northeast Tennessee. - Knowledge of telecommunications as it relates to education and business. - Knowledge of word processing and desktop publishing systems. - Ability to work with a wide variety of people and groups. - Ability to communicate effectively. - Ability to coordinate multiple and diverse activities to multiple sites. - Ability to troubleshoot and make minor repairs to site classroom equipment. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in business, communications or related field; two years of administrative experience, preferably in distance education.
