Function of Position
Responsible to the Dean for providing academic and career advising to undergraduate students pursuing teacher certification programs; serving as liaison to faculty who work with teacher education students and curricula; serving as liaison to community colleges following articulation agreements with ETSU licensure programs; performing routine academic processes; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Performs academic and career advisement to undergraduate students pursuing teacher certification programs.
- Performs routine academic processes for Dean’s office, i.e., late registration, cut cards, late drop, withdrawals, appeals, etc.
- Assesses personal needs for referral purposes.
- Serves as liaison to faculty in four colleges who work with teacher education students and curricula.
- Develops flier, posters, brochures, newspaper notices, etc. to communicate information to current students and recruit new students.
- Collects, compiles and analyzes student data for reports.
- Coordinates, instructs and develops curricula for Orientation to Profession of Education courses.
- Serves and represents CCOE on various University committees such as Registration, Orientation, and Academic Advisement Council.
- Coordinates CCOE participation in new student orientations to the University throughout the year.
- Maintains current procedures manuals for advisement services.
- Represents CCOE in recruitments events sponsored on and off campus by the University.
Secondary Functions
- Assists in updating catalog copy.
- Assists departments and the Office of Enrollment Management in the recruitment of students for teacher education.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to teacher certification.
- Knowledge of university programs and services.
- Knowledge of course requirements for teacher certification.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to learn quickly, retain, organize and communicate complex information.
Supervision Given and Received
Performs under general supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, master’s degree preferred. Experience in the specific tasks of position or in related activities required.
