Function of Position

Responsible to the Executive Associate Dean for developing marketing/recruitment strategies and enrollment management goals in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs; identifying potential markets; setting and meeting enrollment goals for the college; evaluating the success of recruitment activities; projecting student course enrollment and trends; participating in class schedule development, admissions, retention and tracking efforts; coordinating all college advisement operations, procedures and activities with clinical affiliates, faculty, office staff, and administrative personnel related to student services in the College of Nursing; providing individual and group advisement and career counseling (undergraduate); pre-enrollment advisement (graduate and undergraduate); maintaining prospective, current and past student data for licensure/certification of graduates, providing accurate data to accrediting agencies, and providing accurate data to administrators/faculty in the application of grants; collecting required documents and reports to ensure student compliance with affiliate contract requirements; preparing documentation and reports for state licensing of baccalaureate graduates and practitioner certification for master's graduates; supervising administrative and support staff employees; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Establishes recruitment goals and implements strategies to attain goals.

- Develops new marketing strategies including direct mailings, telemarketing, and on-line (e-mail, web site) to reach a wider pool of potential applicants; refines strategies to maximize recruitment expenditures.

- Directs student recruitment efforts including correspondence with prospective students/parents, high school guidance counselors, community college transfer/health professions advisors, directors of nursing at regional agencies, undeclared advisors, off-campus coordinators and admissions counselors.

- Consults with other college and university administrators, faculty, advisors and staff to plan and implement activities to promote student success, satisfaction and retention.

- Serves as liaison with multicultural affairs office in relation to recruitment strategies for students of color.

- Refines developed policies and procedures to maximize student contacts and monitor student progress to minimize student attrition.

- Directs development, publication, and revisions of undergraduate and graduate recruitment brochures.

- Coordinates faculty involvement with recruitment.

- Oversees development of recruitment schedule to high schools, community colleges, college fairs, area health care agencies and professional conferences.

- Develops articulation agreements with other schools, colleges and programs.

- Develops and coordinates advertising and press releases for the college.

- Develops and analyzes market, student and alumni surveys to support new program development.

- Proposes and administers student services budget.

- Provides course projections to department chairs and associate deans.

- Reviews undergraduate applications and admits students based on established criteria and enrollment goals of the college; coordinates review of graduate applications by graduate admissions committee.

- Implements, assesses and refines computerized student database to facilitate clinical affiliate contract compliance, licensure/ certification of graduates, program approval by State Board of Nursing, reaccreditation by National League for Nursing.

- Oversees student licensure/certification applications and reference requests.

- Develops and implements protocols for accessing student records.

- Maintains, monitors and provides data to faculty regarding student compliance with clinical course requirements (e.g., current malpractice/liability insurance, current CPR certification, current immunization/health status report, annual update for universal precautions, etc.).

- Coordinates and facilitates all nursing student advising and orientations.

- Implements and adheres to guidelines, standards and principles for student personnel as outlined by the National Association of Student Personnel Administration, and the National Academic Advising Association.

- Identifies and advises "at risk" students and those in academic difficulty.

- Coordinates student academic appeals and serves as student advocate on academic appeals committee.

- Refines referral system for students needing college, university and community support services.

- Coordinates clinical progression for students in four-year (LPN/BSN, rural sections), college and university honors programs, RN/ BSN, and master's programs.

- Assists in the annual revising of university catalogs and the college student handbook.

- Reviews and updates the college curriculum sheets, publications, correspondence, and graduation related materials as needed.

- Supervises two full-time professional advisors and two support staff employees.

- Oversees maintenance of graduate and undergraduate student academic records.

- Researches student concerns/problems and makes appropriate recommendations.

- Interprets, revises and implements policy and refers to administration as appropriate; establishes and refines work flow, procedures and operational improvements within the unit.

- Writes annual reports and provides feedback to administration regarding office functions and accomplishments.

- Manages supplies and travel budgets.

- Conducts and compiles evaluations of services and programs; provides data and information for reports and files.

Secondary Functions

- Represents the college, dean and associate deans as requested.

- Serves on various university committees.

- Provides one-on-one advisement to students who have been unsuccessful in one or more nursing courses or who are academically "at risk."

- Provides out-placement advisement for students who have been academically dismissed from the nursing major.

- Provides one-on-one and small group advisement of students who are dissatisfied with a university or college policy/procedure.

- Provides initial counseling and referral of students to university/campus resources as appropriate.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of nursing programs and state/national regulatory agency requirements.

- Knowledge of enrollment trends in nursing programs.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Supervises administrative and classified employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in counseling, student personnel or higher education administration required; five years experience in student services, advising and/or enrollment management; knowledge of state/national regulatory agency requirements.
