potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Director of Sports Medicine/Head Trainer for assisting in all phases of the athletic training program; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Assists in the care, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries sustained by female student athletes. - Coordinates physical exams with the Head Trainer. - Assists with the education of graduate assistant athletic trainers. - Assists with the recording of daily injury notation and medical records. - Obtains the required continuing education credits to fulfill the requirements for licensure renewal and national certification. - Assumes responsibilities of the Head Trainer in his/her absence. - Works closely with BucSports Athletic Medicine staff to coordinate all medical services for student-athletes and outpatients. - Assists the BucSports Athletic Medicine Center physician as needed. - Assists the BucSports Athletic Medicine Center physical therapists as needed. - Assists with graduate assistant recruitment. - Serves as primary instructor for the academic course Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries. - Assists the Head Trainer in secondary athletic insurance. - Remains in full compliance with NCAA, University, and Southern Conference rules. - Complies with all NCAA rules and regulations, and acknowledges this compliance as part of an annual evaluation process. - Signs an NCAA Compliance Statement annually. Secondary Functions - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of prescription medicines generally used by intercollegiate athletes. - Knowledge of a wide variety of athletic training room supplies and equipment. - Knowledge of medical activities surrounding a variety of athletic programs. - Knowledge of proper and effective protective equipment to be used by intercollegiate athletes. - Knowledge of computers. - Ability to effectively evaluate and treat a wide variety of sports injuries under the supervision of team physicians. - Ability to form and maintain effective working relationships with area physicians and other medical support personnel. - Ability to effectively train and instruct student assistants. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred in related sports medicine field; certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association and licensed by the State of Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners or eligible required; experience with isokinetic testing equipment and medical billing is desired.
