Function of Position

Responsible to the Dean for serving as primary advisor for students seeking to meet requirements for admission to one of the Health Related Professions bachelors degree programs, the Physical Therapy clinical doctorate program, or an Occupational Health graduate program; assisting students as they move through the general education core and the specific courses required for admission into the program of choice; performing developmental advisement, assisting with selection of major (physical therapy or graduate occupational therapy programs), and educating students about the application processes; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-Serves as lead developmental advisor for those students seeking admission into the health related, physical therapy, or occupational therapy programs.

-Keeps thorough, accurate and confidential advisement files.

-Assists College of Public and Allied Health students seeking advisement in Summer months if other advisors are not available.

-Participates in regularly scheduled orientation/advisement sessions.

Secondary Functions

-Assists associate dean with advisement and recruitment activities.

-Keeps advisement materials and advisement skills updated.

-Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

-Knowledge of the basics of the academic advisement process in higher education.

-Knowledge of computers and various software packages.

-Ability to communicate effectively.

-Ability to work with students with a wide variety of abilities and backgrounds.

-Ability to think objectively and solve problems.

-Ability to work independently.

-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; experience in academic advisement, counseling, or human development.
