Function of Position

Responsible to the Assistant Vice President and Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning for assisting in planning and implementing initiatives relating to the role of the office in providing support for strategic planning and institutional effectiveness; providing computing and analytical support to all campus units; offering advice on research design and methodology, questionnaire design and implementation, sampling design and statistical analyses; responding to ad hoc requests for information; completion of external surveys; providing explanation and clarification of research results for decision makers; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-Prepares selected IPEDS reports; verifies data accuracy of the THEC submission of selected IPEDS reports.

-Prepares NCAA Graduation Rates Disclosure Form for the NCAA Annual Report.

-Prepares the Academic Inventory Report of Graduates for the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR).

-Prepares the Consortium for Student Retention Data Exchange Report.

-Works with the Coordinator of Outcomes Assessment to prepare Alumni Survey and Enrolled student survey to meet Performance Funding objectives.

-Coordinates and prepares a multitude of surveys for college guidebook services.

-Assists with the preparation of TBR/THEC enrollment reports.

-Responds to multiple and varied ad hoc requests from external agencies and individuals.

-Develops and implements student tracking systems.

-Analyzes data and prepares data tables and graphs for the annual fact book.

-Analyzes data and prepares reports for the Student Assessment of Instruction (SAI).

-Analyzes data from the Alumni Survey and the Enrolled Student Survey for report preparation.

-Analyzes the College Base Entrance and Exit examinations.

-Provides survey support on requests to university personnel involved in research.

-Provides data support and interpretation for offices across campus to satisfy external and internal reporting requirements relating to accreditation issues, agency accountability or departmental evaluation.

-Provides data support and interpretation for individuals across campus in their efforts to secure grant funding, continue grant funding or report accountability measures to granting agencies.

-Responds efficiently to numerous ad hoc requests from all major units of the university community.

Secondary Functions

-Conducts periodic edits of selected Student Information System data elements to insure data integrity for future analyses.

-Serves on various committees as requested.

-Attends and participates in professional meetings; reviews journals to keep abreast of changes and innovations occurring within institutional research.

-Attends training seminars as required.

-Performs day-to-day office functions as required to maintain computer accounts, manage and improve computer programs and insure smooth operations of the office.

-Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

-Knowledge of university and TBR policies and procedures.

-Knowledge of student record files system (SIS).

-Knowledge of computer operating systems and CMS access.

-Knowledge of FOCUS, SAS, SPSS, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics and database management.

-Knowledge of social scientific research and basic statistical procedures.

-Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external constituencies.

-Ability to interpret instructions.

-Ability to manage large volumes of data.

-Ability to clarify problems, formulate strategies, implement procedures for resolution and disseminate information in an appropriate and timely manner.

-Ability to prioritize, work under pressure and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required, master's preferred, in social science or research related field; two years experience in a research and statistics oriented office environment.
