potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Vice Provost and Chief Student Affairs Officer for serving as compliance officer for the university for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; developing and modifying ADA facility plan for the university including conducting physical audits and maintaining knowledge of needed improvements; approving renovation and new design projects to assure compliance with disability standards; reviewing documentation of disability and determining reasonable and appropriate accommodations for all students, faculty, and staff with disabilities; providing direct service to self-identified students based on disability; providing faculty with Faculty Accommodation Forms and consultation for accommodating students in the classroom; providing workshops for faculty, staff and administrators regarding disability issues and federal legislation; providing professional consultation regarding disability issues to major divisions of the university including Academic Affairs, Business and Finance, Student Affairs, Health Services, and University Advancement; maintaining confidential files on students, faculty, and staff with self-identified disabilities; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Provides consultation in disability issues to university offices regarding their functions under federal disability guidelines, 504 and ADA. - Develops and modifies Facility Access Plan for the university, determining priorities. - Meets with students and determines appropriate accommodations. - Provides consultation to faculty and administration on applying reasonable accommodations. - Oversees LEAP program. - Provides direct service to self-identified students with disabilities. - Implements accommodations for people with disabilities on campus. - Promotes physical and program access at the university. - Supervises administrative and classified employees. Secondary Functions - Serves as an advocate for people with disabilities. - Provides disability awareness training. - Promotes an accessible environment. - Advises student organizations. - Serves on university committees. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of ADA and Section 504 and related standards. - Knowledge of psycho-social dynamics of disabilities. - Knowledge of physical, medical, psychological, sensory and learning disabilities. - Knowledge of reasonable accommodations for specific disabilities. - Knowledge of counseling and advising techniques. - Knowledge of budget and related policies. - Knowledge of adaptive equipment and technology. - Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff. - Ability to plan and implement long range goals. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Directly supervises administrative and classified employees. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in rehabilitation, counseling, special education, social work or related field required; a minimum of three years of professional experience working full-time with persons with disabilities required; demonstrated management experience with budget oversight, personnel supervision and program development required; background working with college students and college administrators preferred; experience in interpreting and applying Section 504 and the ADA in a higher education setting preferred.
