potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Director for coordinating and supervising programs including clinical procedures and career activities; counseling services to students through personal and career counseling with individuals, couples and groups; supervising graduate assistants and providing training opportunities; assisting in the organizational development and clinical programming of the Center; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Counsels individuals, couples and groups concerning personal and career issues. - Coordinates and supervises clinical programs including case reviews of intakes. - Supervises counselors and graduate assistants. - Administers and interprets psychological tests including interest and personality testing to assist with career counseling. - Provides crisis intervention, emergency evaluations, support and referral service to students. - Coordinates and supervises the Peer Career Center. - Provides consultation and outreach presentations to the campus and surrounding communities. - Assists director with needs assessments and retention efforts. Secondary Functions - Serves as counseling liaison with off-campus centers. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of basic counseling principles, techniques and theories, including crisis intervention, family therapy, as well as individual approaches. - Knowledge of administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychological tests. - Knowledge of ethical and legal issues in counseling. - Knowledge of basic statistical methods for researching student needs. - Ability to present workshops and group programs, supervise graduate students, and offer staff development programs. - Ability to administer, score, and interpret various psychometric instruments. - Ability to consult with other professionals. - Ability to make written and oral reports. - Ability to develop and maintain peer relationships with staff and other professionals outside center. - Ability to provide a liaison relationship with other helping agencies. - Ability to assess, evaluate, and implement crisis intervention services in emergency situations. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree in counseling, guidance, clinical psychology or related field; three to five years experience in counseling, preferably in higher education. Minimum certification as a Professional Counselor in Tennessee and/or National Certified Counselor by National Board of Certified Counselors; license eligible as counseling psychologist required.
