Function of Position

Responsible to the Director of the Child Study Center for assisting with the daily operation of Child Study Center programs; assisting with curriculum planning, facility management, training and supervision; communicating with parents, prospective parents, college students and the community; facilitating the ordering of supplies and maintaining inventory; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Assists in administering all Child Study Center programs.

- Acts as a team member to conceptualize and implement all new program components.

- Evaluates and supervises ongoing curriculum for developmental appropriateness based on the educational philosophy of the center.

- Assists in ensuring program compliance with state licensing requirements and accreditation criteria.

- Maintains health and safety policies for the programs.

- Maintains and monitors open communication between parents, their children, and the Center through parent meetings and newsletters.

- Oversees staff schedules, substitutes and leave requests.

- Assists in preparing for weekly staff meetings and in-service training sessions.

- Maintains communication with director to keep him/her informed about overall program operation.

- Assists in designing and maintaining a stimulating indoor and outdoor physical environment.

- Contributes to the early childhood profession through service on local committees, professional organizations, and through workshop and conference presentations.

- Assists in coordinating undergraduate and graduate field placements.

- Determines Center supply needs and orders as needed.

- Monitors teachers' performance in the classrooms and recommends necessary changes.

Secondary Functions

- Serves as substitute teacher in classrooms as needed.

- Serves as backup for office staff as needed.

- Serves as a resource person for students, parents and teachers.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Thorough knowledge of the development of young children ages birth through eight years.

- Knowledge of child care administration including budgeting, enrollment, staffing, licensing and accreditation requirements, facility planning and management, nutrition and parent communication.

- Knowledge of supervisory techniques as well as interpersonal skills.

- Ability to interact in a professional way with parents, faculty, staff, community visitors, graduate and undergraduate students and other ETSU departments.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in early childhood education; three years of experience in a planned program for children; two years of administrative experience.
