Function of Position
Responsible to the Athletic Director for directing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Department; possessing signature authority and serving as Athletics Director in his/her absence; directly supervising ten Division 1 head coaches in all aspects of their thirteen different programs including but not limited to budget, recruiting, scheduling, staffing, team travel, planning, discipline, academics, and bidding for and coordination of championships; working closely with the Athletics Director to envision, plan and execute the Athletics Department strategy of helping the university achieve the vision of becoming the best regional university in the nation; representing ETSU as Senior Woman Administrator in NCAA, conference and related meetings; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Works closely with Athletic Director on long and short-term planning, developing departmental policy, developing the budget, and implementing strategy. - Directs the operations of the Athletics Department in all aspects related to the following areas: · NCAA and Atlantic Sun Conference Compliance · Academic Services · Strength and Conditioning · Facilities · Speaker’s Bureau · Sports Performance Enhancement Consortium (SPEC)/Center of Excellence for Sports Performance and Coaches Education · Public Safety · Community Service · Student Affairs - Serves as Sports Supervisor overseeing all aspects of the following NCAA Division 1 competition programs including budget, scheduling, team travel, recruiting, planning, staffing, academics, and discipline: · Women’s Basketball · Men’s Soccer · Women’s Soccer · Volleyball · Men’s and Women’s Cross Country · Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field · Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field · Softball · Women’s Golf · Cheerleading · Men’s Tennis · Women’s Tennis - Serves as the Director of Atlantic Sun Conference Championships hosted by ETSU including Men’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Women’s Golf, Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field, as well as all future championships to be awarded. - Supervises the management and conduct of all intercollegiate athletic sporting events and facilities. - Conducts event management for Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field. - Serves as the department liaison for the Sports Performance Enhancement Consortium and the Center of Excellence for Sports Performance and Coaches Education. - Works directly with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and various national governing bodies of sports such as USA Boxing. - Represents ETSU as Senior Woman Administrator in all conference and NCAA related meetings. - Coordinates facilities scheduling between programs, other university departments and outside events; supervises facilities staff in maintaining and improving facilities; works with Physical Plant on facilities projects. - Oversees the use of athletic facilities owned by the city of Johnson City for ETSU programs. - Administers student-athlete welfare programs such as career mentoring, community service, Alcohol Awareness Task Force, Student-Athlete Advisory Council, National Student-Athlete Week, and Bucathalon. - Serves as the Atlantic Sun Administrative liaison to Women’s Basketball. - Serves on the NCAA Women’s Basketball Issues Committee. - Writes all grant proposals for the department and administers all programs that are funded by grants. - Assists with fundraising activities.
Secondary Functions
- Assists the Athletic Director in the supervision of the following sports: · Men’s Basketball · Men’s Golf · Baseball - Directs the operations of the Athletics Department in all aspects related to the following areas: · Student Affairs · Camps and Conferences · Homecoming Committee · Career Mentoring · ETSU Alcohol and Other Drug Task Force
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations. - Knowledge of basic principles of athletics administration and management. - Ability to develop long and short-term plans for area of responsibility. - Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. - Ability to communicate effectively. - Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees, students, and the public.
Supervision Given and Received
Performs under general supervision. Plans and arranges own work which is
directed toward an established objective. Supervises administrative and support
staff.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred; three to five years of related athletic experience; broad supervisory and managerial experience at an NCAA Division I institution; background as a coach at the Division I level preferred.
