Function of Position
Responsible to the Associate Athletics Director for Development/Executive Director of BASA for producing significant revenue for the department through marketing and promoting all athletics programs to businesses, ETSU students, staff, fans, and alumni; developing a comprehensive marketing plan to secure sponsorship advertising revenue contracts; directing alumni and corporate events outside the immediate region; directing corporate support for the BASA All-Sport Golf Tournament; working closely with Associate Athletic Director for Development/Executive Director of BASA on directing corporate support to BASA when appropriate; and directing the strategies for outside sales of tickets to generate increased ticket sales for all sports. This position is also responsible for increasing revenues by directing a merchandising plan to sell ETSU apparel and novelties at athletic events and on the athletic website e-merchandising link; supervising the Marketing and Promotions Coordinator, marketing interns, graduate assistants, practica students, and volunteers who assist with marketing efforts; and coordinating the efforts of the Associate Athletic Director for Development, ticket manager, and BASA Director into a unified plan.
Essential Functions
- Maintains responsibility for all corporate funding plans and special revenue strategies with local businesses and develops overall marketing/promotions and merchandising plan consistent with department objectives for general marketing revenues.
- Develops marketing plans for individual sports, prioritizing campaigns to produce maximum potential revenue.
- Develops a unified marketing/promotion plan for all department areas.
- Solicits corporate sponsors and partners; establishes and maintains marketing contracts.
- Supervises Marketing and Promotions Coordinator, interns and graduate assistants in planning and executing pre-game, halftime, and post-game promotional events/activities based on sponsorship agreements.
- Prepares yearly marketing/promotion revenue budget/goals consistent with department objectives.
- Prepares monthly reports of marketing/promotion programs and activities.
- Maintains records of marketing contracts, plans and activities.
- Develops sponsorship program to provide complimentary meals, vehicles, and hotel rooms for all head coaches and for special promotions/events.
- Maintains responsibility for selling, creating and maintaining signage at athletic functions for sponsors in accordance with contracts.
- Coordinates with Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations (position under audit) for website promotions.
- Solicits sponsors for Buccaneer Radio and T.V. Network to increase department revenue.
- Directs special promotional projects and ticket campaigns for all sports to increase departmental revenue.
- Develops plans to increase student and area youth involvement in all athletic events.
- Develops plan to identify, contact, and encourage all students, faculty/staff, alumni and medical school students and personnel to increase ticket purchases.
- Designs and publishes athletic marketing inventory catalog showing all partnership and sponsoring opportunities.
- Creates multimedia advertising plan for all sports.
- Oversees all technology upgrades for athletic marketing: designing electronics signage, bidding process, installation, and operations.
- Directs BASA coaches’ caravans throughout surrounding communities and target alumni cities.
- Organizes and plans regional satellite clubs (target alumni cities) to increase donation revenue for BASA.
- Maintains responsibility for organizing, planning and directing the BASA All-Sports Golf Tournament.
- Works closely with the Associate Athletic Director for Advancement/ Executive Director of BASA on increasing donations to BASA from the surrounding communities and ETSU Alumni.
- Works closely with the Athletic Director and the Associate Athletic Director for Advancement/Executive Director for BASA on increasing donations for Athletic Facilities Capital Campaign.
- Develops a comprehensive strategic plan and directs outside ticket sales for all sports.
- Supervises marketing interns, graduate assistants, and practica students.
- Directs outside ticket sales as part of coaches’ caravan.
- Directs outside ticket sales in conjunction with BASA annual membership drive.
- Directs ticket sales campaign with geographic support groups.
- Produces brochures, letters, web site, etc for ticket sales of all revenue sports.
- Maintains responsibility for merchandise licensing program between the university and vendors.
- Establishes and operates a systematic merchandising plan/program including ETSU apparel and novelties for home contests and special events.
- Orders, maintains inventory, displays and reports all athletics merchandise as part of department revenue budget.
- Develops merchandise partnerships with local businesses to sell ETSU apparel and novelties.

Oversees solicitation at events by campus and
community organizations.
Secondary Functions
- Remains in full compliance with NCAA, University, and Atlantic Sun Conference rules.
- Signs an NCAA Compliance Statement annually.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in sports
management, marketing or related field required, master’s degree in related
field preferred; three years experience in athletic marketing, sales or related
position; college athletic background preferred.
