Function of Position

Responsible to the Director of Financial Aid for supervising the scholarship office and all scholarship activities; interacting with university staff, high school personnel, students, parents and the community to promote a positive image of the university and to recruit the best students; developing and maintaining a centralized process for the processes of application and awarding scholarships, and establishing and maintaining a comprehensive database of recipients; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-Implements and oversees scholarship application process and database.

-Communicates with students, parents, high school guidance counselors, the university community, and community organizations concerning scholarships.

-Coordinates the Scholarship Committee's determination of scholarship recipients.

-Oversees students' continuing eligibility for scholarships.

-Updates all printed and electronic scholarship information for the university.

-Communicates information to the university community, prospective students, and the outside community regarding the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship program.

-Ensures that scholarships are awarded correctly within university and Title IV regulations.

Secondary Functions

-Collects and distributes information to academic departments concerning external scholarship opportunities.

-Notification to donors of scholarship awards and recipients.

-Serves as representative of Scholarship/Financial Aid Office on various university committees.

-Serves as associate director of the Roan Scholars Leadership Program including primary responsibility for the coordination of viewbook production, scholars' housing, scholars "move-in" event, monthly seminars, communication experience, newsletter, service learning, and the Public Safety Academy experience; assists with the application process, attends and assists with all interviews, attends and assists with all Roan Scholars functions including the press conference, receptions, and steering committee meetings.

-Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

-Knowledge of the Student Information System, Title IV regulations, university academic policies, and web-based processes.

-Ability to communicate effectively.

-Ability to promote cooperation between the scholarship office and the university community.

-Ability to implement and maintain a comprehensive database, verify initial eligibility and track continuing eligibility of scholarship recipients.

-Ability to account for scholarship funds.

-Ability to supervise and evaluate staff.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.  Supervises administrative and classified employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required, master's preferred; three years of related experience.
