potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Chair for class scheduling and career advising for departmental undergraduate students; teaching two classes per academic year; participating in recruitment, retention and outcome assessment efforts; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Teaches two undergraduate/graduate courses per academic year. - Performs developmental advisement involving career exploration for 350+ undergraduate/graduate students and 100 students minoring in criminal justice; schedules classes. - Participates in recruitment, retention and outcome assessment efforts. - Supervises one to two graduate tuition scholarship students per academic year. - Assists the departmental chair as required; supervises department secretary in the absence of the chair. - Coordinates with various university departments (admissions, registrar, financial aid, etc.) in assisting students to meet graduation requirements. - Serves as coordinator of the department Co-op program; coordinates between the student, the Office of Career Placement, and the Co-op site. - Serves on departmental committees. - Serves on the Academic Advisement Council and the Advisor Recognition Committee. - Serves as faculty advisor to the Criminal Justice Society. - Assists with the coordination of the departmental field experience program including recruitment, application processing and monitoring students progress during the field experience. - Represents the department as a faculty representative to external organizational boards (parole, law enforcement, probation, etc.). - Coordinates with community college feeder programs to the department regarding articulation agreements and other transfer issues. Secondary Functions - Serves on university committees/councils as needed. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of computers. - Knowledge of university programs and services. - Knowledge of university policies and procedures. - Knowledge of undergraduate and graduate criminal justice/criminology courses. - Ability to collect and analyze data. - Ability to refer students to appropriate university resources. - Ability to work independently. - Ability to communicate effectively. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in criminal justice/criminology or in a related social science discipline (preferably with a concentration in criminal justice/criminology) required; should have undergraduate teaching and advising experience.
