potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Director, Child Study Center, for overseeing day-to-day operation of the student child care center; coordinating all center programs; supervising and training all personnel at the student center; serving as primary contact with students, parents, staff and the community regarding center programs; assisting with curriculum development; ensuring that licensing guidelines for adult/child ratios are followed; arranging parent education training sessions; collecting tuition payments; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Maintains center standards following Tennessee Department of Human Services, National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, and the Child/Adult Care Food Program. - Develops and updates parent and staff handbooks. - Assists in compiling status reports to appropriate committees. - Supervises secretary, student workers and student observers. - Works as a team member with Child Study Center administration. - Maintains records for food program reports. - Determines sliding fee scale each semester for Campus Grant. - Reports payments and balances owed by Campus Grant on a five-week cycle. - Determines and reports parent tuition balances and payments. - Inspects facility and reports maintenance needs. - Contacts Public Safety when emergency issues arise. - Establishes guidelines for opening and closing of facility. - Arranges work schedule for 25+ student workers each semester. - Interviews students interested in employment; initiates paperwork for hiring; provides orientation for new student workers. - Serves as mediator for staff issues/problems; initiates disciplinary action as appropriate. - Provides designated times for parent tours. - Explains enrollment procedures to parents and plans/executes orientation to the program. - Monitors tuition payments and deposits; records delinquent accounts. - Secures updated immunization/health forms for children. - Works with families to determine child care needs and schedules. Secondary Functions - Represents center at conferences and seminars, as well as short and long-range planning meetings. - Monitors petty cash, accuracy of invoices, and approves invoices for payment. - Assists in determining purchases of snacks, supplies, toys and equipment. - Mentors students working in the field of child care. - Works with student workers to plan appropriate experiences for children. - Responds to time card and payroll issues. - Performs evaluations on student workers. - Determines seriousness of emergencies and contacts families when situations warrant. - Assesses families needs and maintains a family resource library. - Plans and implements workshops for parents related to family issues and child rearing practices. - Educates families about all aspects of the program. - Works to resolve conflicts that families may have concerning programming, etc. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of child development and early childhood education. - Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices regarding programs for young children. - Knowledge of accounting principles. - Ability to communicate effectively. - Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding parent income statements, student evaluations, children's health records, etc. - Ability to supervise field experiences for college students. - Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. - Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs for children. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development required; master's degree in early childhood preferred; three years experience in a supervisory position in an early childhood setting; two years experience in a developmentally appropriate classroom as a lead teacher.
