Function of Position

Responsible to the Director of the Child Study Center for serving as major caregiver for children in assigned classroom; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum for indoor and outdoor learning environments; plans focus activities for various centers.

- Designs and maintains stimulating physical environment (including playground).

- Works with team members.

- Communicates with parents and college students.

- Maintains childrens' records through assessments and anecdotal records; monitors checklist and evaluates progress.

- Participates in professional development activities.

- Attends weekly/monthly staff and planning meetings and other required meetings as scheduled.

- Schedules parent conferences twice yearly.

- Attends parent meetings.

- Supervises and mentors college students and field experiences students.

Secondary Functions

- Maintains inventory of equipment.

- Maintains equipment and facility and notifies appropriate person if repairs are needed.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of child development and early childhood education.

- Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs for children.

- Ability to supervise field experiences for college students.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or child development required; or at least 18 hours completed in early childhood education in a master's program.
