potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Director of the Student Health Clinic for coordinating the department's health education programming and supporting the health and patient education efforts for the clinical staff; planning and conducting activities designed to promote self-reliance and knowledge about health and illness, and facilitate choices and behaviors consistent with lifelong health; performing needs assessments; planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs; disseminating health information; identifying resource materials; assisting clinical staff with educational endeavors; providing direct patient teaching; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions -Assesses individual and community student needs for health education. -Plans health and patient education programs. -Implements health education programs employing a wide range of methods and techniques best suited to campus population. -Monitors and evaluates educational programming; revises objectives, methods and materials as needed. -Coordinates provision of health education services by other clinic personnel. -Develops health education resource center for use by students. -Assists multidisciplinary health care team in meeting patient needs in the clinic setting through patient teaching. -Utilizes computerized health information systems to meet health information needs of patient and student population. Secondary Functions -Serves as a resource person to students and staff. -Acts as liaison between individual consumer groups and the Student Health Clinic to foster communication on health education concerns. -Assists faculty and students as requested in presentations and/or projects related to health topics in university courses. -Supervises student workers. -Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities -Knowledge of health behaviors that foster and hinder health. -Knowledge of physical, social, emotional and intellectual factors influencing health behaviors. -Knowledge of educational methodologies, information technology, and teaching strategies. -Knowledge of computerized health information retrieval systems. -Knowledge of motivational techniques and learning styles. -Knowledge of basic health issues. -Knowledge of medical terminology. -Ability to communicate effectively. -Ability to formulate program objectives. -Ability to design, collect and analyze program evaluation data. -Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other members of the clinical team. -Ability to think and plan creatively. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in health or patient education and eligibility for CHES certification required; prior experience in clinical or educational setting and skill in use of information technology are preferred.
