Function of Position

Responsible to the Associate Dean, School of Continuing Studies, for marketing the Bachelor of General Studies, Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Science in Professional Studies, Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies, Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, Cohort Programs, and Credit courses in the Division of Cross-Disciplinary Studies; maintaining the division's web pages, electronic data and TracDat systems; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-Markets all academic programs in the division, including newspaper, magazine, radio and television advertising, direct mailings, business and industry mailings, and other marketing strategies designed to maintain a high level of visibility and positive image for division programs throughout the region.

-Creates prospective marketing plan each term including approximate costs.

-Surveys area media markets and determines most effective advertisement buys and media placement.

-Oversees design, production, and execution in the media of all advertising.

-Tracks, quantifies data and evaluates marketing efforts.

-Produces BGS newsletter.

-Uses student data for direct mailings of postcards, information sheets, notice of new terms, etc.

-Maintains mailing lists.

-Coordinates with academic departments on cohort program advertising.

-Produces all division brochures.

-Produces posters for display in business, industry, schools, and other target areas.

-Coordinates marketing efforts with community colleges and cohort sites.

-Produces yearly marketing report.

Secondary Functions

-Coordinates and updates web resources for the division.

-Consults with School of Continuing Studies on marketing efforts for all of the school's units.

-Maintains a working relationship with regional media including radio, television, newspapers and other print media.

-Maintains TracDat system.

-Teaches in division's programs as needed.

-Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

-Knowledge of successful marketing venues and strategies.

-Knowledge of layout, design, and publishing.

-Knowledge of adult education and practices.

-Knowledge of current on-line education practices.

-Knowledge of university admission, registration, general education, and graduation policies and requirements.

-Knowledge of on-line education and degree programs.

-Knowledge of university advertising and promotion procedures and regulations.

-Knowledge of computers including web page construction and desktop publishing.

-Knowledge of continuous improvement practices as related to division programs.

-Ability to communicate effectively.

-Ability to organize and manage a diverse number of projects simultaneously.

-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.

-Ability to write in a variety of styles.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in education, business, or a related field required; five years experience in marketing; two years experience in a college or university setting; experience marketing academic programs at a college or university preferred; experience in college or university teaching helpful.
