Function of Position

 

The Education Coordinator is responsible to the Director for the development and implementation of inquiry-based and experiential museum education programs for adults and children, and linking K-12 programs to curriculum standards in the appropriate school districts (including but not limited to TN, NC, VA, and KY); teach adults and children in museum and classroom settings; assist in training volunteers and other personnel to present museum programming and outreach activities, assist with the preparation of promotional materials for Museum programs; assist in grant writing for funding for education programs; and perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions

 

-        Develops, designs, and implements age-appropriate educational programs (including but not limited to tours, on-site classes, outreach, special topic workshops and presentations) and link to regional curriculum standards.

-        Assists the Director in grant writing to fund educational programs and activities.

-        Assists in training volunteers and other personnel

-        Assists in preparing marketing materials for program promotion

 

Secondary Functions

 

-        Assists in the planning and preparation of temporary exhibits.

-        Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

-        Knowledge of inquiry-based, experiential learning methods.

-        Knowledge of computer based communications.

-        Ability to maintain professional relations with various constituencies.

-        Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.

-        Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

-        Ability to work well with a team.

 

Supervision Given and Received

 

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree in education or a related field; one year of experience in public education as a teacher or museum educator.
