Position Title:  Web Manager

Function of Position

 

Responsible to the Director of the Office of Academic Technology, eLearning, and Online Education for overseeing the internet web site of the organization. The person in this position must have vision; ensure an accurate and favorable electronic image of the institution; create a fluid web site that attracts diverse audiences and increases visibility; enable both internal and external constituents to communicate effectively; and adapt to changing priorities, be creative, and work independently.

 

Essential Functions

 

-        Works with administrative units, colleges, and department to audit content and establish an information architecture.

-        Works closely with contracted site designers to create a dynamic, usable Web interface.

-        Works closely with administrative units, colleges and departments to migrate current Web content into CMS.

-        Edits CMS Java Script Pages (JSP) as needed.

-        Assist units, colleges and departments in defining roles and permissions with the CMS.

-        Conducts usability test and statistics as necessary.

-        Guides the university concerning legally-mandated electronic documentation and Web accessibility requirements.

-        Improves the quality of ETSU electronic documents.

-        Monitors ETSU Web for inappropriate use of Web space.

-        Responds in an efficient and effective manner to email and telephone calls related to Web issues.

-        Provides continuous site management.

-        Designs Web templates for use on ETSU servers as required.

-        Supports faculty and staff in the integration of technology in education.

-        Develops and presents workshops related to Web publication, including but not limited to, workshops in Dreamweaver and CMS.

-        Supports the mission and goals of Academic Technology, eLearning and Online Education unit.

-        Remains informed of technical developments in Web publishing.

-        Explores emerging technologies to ensure ETSU has a forward moving vision regarding the Web presence.

-        Provides development activities related to Web content publications for ETSU faculty and staff, including but not limited to CMS training.

-        Works closely with the university Web Steering Committee to develop and implement a reliable and usable web presence.

 

 Secondary Functions

 

-        Serves on appropriate university and college committees.

-        Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

-        Knowledge of Web publishing and CMS.

-        Knowledge of Web management, HTML, JavaScript, CMS, JSP, and ASP.

-        Knowledge of print and electronic media design.

-        Knowledge of object-oriented media design.

-        Knowledge of Web development tools such as Java Server Pages, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Microsoft FrontPage.

-        Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.

 

 

Supervision Given and Received

 

Performs under general supervision; Determines own methods of performing assigned work.  Directs the activities of other web site staff, including web developer and web coordinator.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science required, Master’s degree preferred.  Experience designing and developing for the Web required; experience with content management systems preferred; knowledge of usability testing for the Web required; experience using SQL and/or Oracle required; experience in development of Web tools using ASP and/or JSP required.
