Function of Position

Responsible to the Dean for supervising four liaisons in the oversight of all admissions and records of graduate students; assisting in routine administration of the graduate school; overseeing recruitment, retention efforts, and assistance to programs/departments in administering and revising their curricula; representing the School of Graduate Studies in the dean's absence; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Directs admission procedures to the graduate school.

- Reviews all admission requests.

- Reviews graduate admission policies; develops and proposes new policies.

- Oversees in-state residency application process.

- Coordinates transcript evaluation and eligibility of international students.

- Supervises all progress and records of graduate students.

- Reviews all special requests from graduate students.

- Assists dean in all affairs of the graduate school.

- Coordinates graduate school calendar and oversees its publication in each semester's class schedule.

- Oversees design, production and utilization of all graduate school forms.

- Supervises four graduate program liaisons and graduate assistants.

Secondary Functions

- Coordinates SPEAK exam for international graduate students.

- Develops programs and procedures for recruitment of graduate students.

- Assists colleges, schools, and departments in recruiting.

- Participates in the development and implementation of graduate school orientation; attends conferences and recruitment programs.

- Coordinates Graduate Council Sub-Committee on Student Affairs.

- Works with full graduate school constituency in oversight, implementation, and revision of graduate degree programs.

- Designs and oversees electronic application process.

- Represents graduate school on Admissions and Records Committee, Residency Appeals Committee, Registration Committee and SIS Task Force.

- Acts as liaison with Office of International Programs.

- Coordinates Begin Again activities with the Center for Adult Programs and Services.

- Oversees web page construction.

- Reviews, develops and proposes policies related to graduate education and research.

- Participates in appropriate state, regional and national meetings and organizations for graduate education.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of TBR and SACS policies, guidelines, criteria for accreditation.

- Knowledge of university policies and procedures.

- Knowledge of graduate school policies and procedures.

- Ability to communicate effectively.

- Ability to interpret and apply policies fairly and consistently.

- Ability to lead and direct employees toward goals.

Supervision Given and Received

Initiates broad programs under general direction, working from policies and general objectives. Supervises administrative and support staff employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. required; must be a tenured faculty member.
