Function of Position Responsible to the Dean for developing and coordinating curriculum and associated programming for honors programs (including University Honors Scholars, Midway Scholars, Arts Scholars) and for honors opportunities (including Undergraduate Research and study abroad/educational exchange programs); part-time instruction in foundation/ orientation courses for college programs; assisting directors in developing appropriate courses and co-curricular activities; managing curriculum approval process for courses; certifying students for recognition at graduation; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Serves as a member of the administrative team for the college, including participation in strategic planning, development of new programs, and operation of existing programs; takes a leadership role in developing initiatives to enhance overall effectiveness of honors programs and activities across campus. - Develops recommendations for course content, evaluation, and delivery for scholarship and opportunity programs in the Honors College, including research into best practices and comparative curricula on a national basis. - Develops recommendations to dean and directors for co-curricular programming, such as lectures, performances, debates, exhibits, etc., and provides assistance in coordinating co-curricular events across program areas. - Serves as a liaison with faculty from all academic colleges and departments and assists them in development of courses and events for the college. - Assists in completion of curriculum proposals. - Assists in development of assessment and evaluations tools appropriate to courses and co-curricular programming. - Responsible for guiding proposals submitted by the college through all university curriculum approval and governance processes. - Coordinates honors course offerings and co-curricular program events across all program areas of the college. - Teaches foundation courses (non-major) for honors programs, as needed. - Develops guidelines for community service activity requirements for honors students; serves as liaison with offices and staff involved with Service Learning. Secondary Functions - Reviews all materials associated with course proposals, course syllabi, and program offerings for the college. - Reviews materials regarding scholarship and other programming to be disseminated to prospective students and other campus constituents as needed. - Recommends and assists with offering of recruitment and orientation activities for new and current honors students. - Assists with design of assessment instruments and gathering of student survey data for all programs of the college. - Serves as liaison with campus advisement and recruitment committees. - Serves as liaison with academic departments across campus. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of honors programming and associated curriculum. - Knowledge of university policies and requirements regarding admissions, registration, general education and graduation requirements for students at ETSU. - Knowledge of best practices in content design for foundation and orientation courses and activities in honors programming. - Knowledge of curriculum approval processes at ETSU. - Knowledge of and ability to research methods and design of assessment and evaluation tools for course and co-curricular programming. - Knowledge of university resources available to students. - Ability to advise students. - Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms. - Ability to solve problems. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff. Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assignments work. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in any field; minimum of five years experience in university-level teaching; experience in student advising at the university level; familiarity with honors programs; knowledge of Student Information Systems and university governance and approval processes; experience in honors course instruction, experience in mentoring of undergraduate students in major projects, evidence of interdisciplinary works/activities, evidence of excellent instructional skills, and ability to perform under general supervision preferred.
