Position Title: Intramural Sports Coordinator

Function of Position

Responsible to the Director for planning, implementing and evaluating intramural sport programs for the university community; recruiting, training and supervising graduate assistants and part-time employees serving as field supervisors, referees and scorekeepers; marketing all programs and scheduling events; overseeing collection of fees; coordinating with departmental personnel to insure operation of the university recreation program; coordinating scheduling and maintenance of facilities; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Plans, implements and evaluates individual and team sports intramurals (leagues, meets, races, tournaments, etc.).

- Oversees fee collections and appropriate equipment inventories.

- Performs administrative/support functions including budgeting, marketing, scheduling, etc.

- Supervises and mentors graduate assistants and undergraduate student workers.

Secondary Functions

- Oversees maintenance and scheduling of facilities.

- Participates in professional associations.

- Serves on university committees.

- Teaches non-credit classes.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of computer applications for intramural sports.

- Knowledge of officiating techniques.

- Knowledge of a variety of sports rules and regulations.

- Knowledge of marketing techniques and budgeting.

- Ability to function independently.

- Ability to communicate effectively.

- Ability to coordinate league/tournament schedules.

- Ability to resolve conflicts.

- Ability to design student worker training programs for intramural sports.

- Ability to supervise and mentor graduate assistants and undergraduate student workers.

- Ability to work as a team member.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in exercise science, physical education, recreation, sports administration, student personnel services or related field; and experience serving as an undergraduate student worker in a university recreation program and one to two years as a graduate assistant in a university recreation program.
