Position Title: Fitness Coordinator

Function of Position

Responsible to the Director for planning, implementing and evaluating recreational fitness programs and services for the university community; providing aerobics group exercise, fitness testing/exercise and prescription/personal training, non-credit instruction, and weight room programs and services; recruiting, training and supervising graduate assistants and part-time employees; marketing all programs; coordinating scheduling and maintenance of facilities; budget management; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Plans, implements and evaluates fitness programs.

- Monitors budget for fitness programming including payroll, purchasing, etc.

- Markets fitness programs.

- Supervises and mentors graduate assistants and student workers.

Secondary Functions

- Oversees maintenance and scheduling of facilities.

- Participates in professional associations.

- Serves on university committees.

- Teaches non-credit classes.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of computers.

- Knowledge of aerobics/group exercise, fitness/exercise and prescription/personal training, and weight room programs and services.

- Knowledge of applying academic disciplines of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology.

- Knowledge of marketing techniques and budgeting.

- Knowledge of fitness and student development/learning.

- Ability to function independently.

- Ability to communicate effectively.

- Ability to motivate and retain participants in exercise programs.

- Ability to supervise and mentor graduate assistants and undergraduate student workers.

- Ability to work as a team member.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in exercise science, physical education, recreation, sports administration, student personnel services or related field; two to five years as a campus recreation student worker or volunteer student leader, and one to two years as a campus recreation graduate assistant; and certification as an aerobics instructor and/or personal trainer from a prominent agency (ACE, ACSM, AFFA, etc.).
