Function of Position

Responsible to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for working with staff to develop, articulate and implement an expanded mission which, in addition to the traditional institutional research functions, includes staff support for overall effectiveness, strategic planning and assessment; providing management and assistance in the development and dissemination of analytical information related to academic and administrative programs, performance funding, accreditation, enrollment and facilities management; facilitating the development of internal and state/federal external reports; providing counsel, fact finding, and analysis in support of decision making; serving as an information resource for academic and administrative units; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

-Provides direction for all operational areas of the office.

-Supervises all office personnel.

-Prepares and maintains annual operating budget.

-Develops annual unit plans and objectives.

-Provides support to the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs in initiatives relating to strategic planning and the development of systems designed to assess institutional effectiveness.

-Prepares reports and surveys for the THEC, TBR and other external agencies.

-Prepares internal reports and conducts institutional studies that serve in decision support or provide information.

-Serves as a primary information provider for all campus units.

-Provides leadership, training and programming support in the development of new information systems designed to facilitate end user computing.

-Analyzes, evaluates, converts and presents data for internal and external reporting.

-Provides summary information for the administration decision‑making process.

Secondary Functions

-Develops, administers, and analyzes survey instruments to assess attitudes and educational needs of constituent groups.

-Participates in collaborative activities and committee assignments.

-Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

-Knowledge of statistical and research procedures.

-Ability to use a variety of computers and software for administrative and research applications including design, analysis, database management and report preparation.

-Ability to present information graphically.

-Ability to communicate effectively.

-Ability to work effectively within the broad spectrum of the university.

Supervision Given and Received

Determines own methods of performing assigned work where definite objectives have been established, requiring a wide range of procedures.  Supervises administrative and classified employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree required; five years experience in progressively responsible higher education positions; a significant understanding of concepts related to institutional effectiveness required; proven experience in institutional research, planning and assessment is highly desirable.
