Function of Position
Manages all fire protection systems for East Tennessee State University,
College of Medicine, and off campus facilities. Responsible for safeguarding
life and property against fire, explosion, and related hazards.
Assists in laboratory safety inspections.
Develops policies and training materials, as well as conducts training
sessions on fire protection for faculty and staff.
Performs building inspections verifying fire and life safety compliance.
Responsible for the protocol and implementation of fire drills.
Manages fire and life safety policies in accordance with all applicable
regulating agencies as well as the Tennessee Board of Regents policies.
Functions as main point of contact and liaison with Tennessee State Fire
Marshals’ Office, local Fire Marshals, and fire departments. Coordinates all
inspections, repairs and preventative maintenance for all fire protection
equipment and systems. Maintains a
detailed record system of inspections and maintenance on all fire protection
systems.

functionality, maintenance, and compliance of fire sprinkler systems.

functionality and compliance of cooking hood suppression systems.

Inspects
the entire campus for fire and life safety compliance.

Oversees
compliance of fire extinguishers.

Performs
fire drills.
Secondary Functions

Reviews
the purchase, modification, and installation of fire protection systems.

Develops, reviews, and implements related policies.

Develops
and conducts training.

Performs
other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Detailed knowledge of fire and
life safety codes.
Good organizational skills.
Detailed knowledge of fire
protection equipment.
Ability to respond to after
hour calls.
Ability to communicate with a
diverse range of people.
Supervision Given and Received
Director of Environmental Health & Safety Services oversees and reviews
responsibilities verifying 100% compliance.
Directly supervise Health & Safety Technician.
Indirectly supervise Facilities personnel (includes electricians, housing
maintenance, and plumbers) when fire systems support is required.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety or related area required.
One year related experience required.
