Function of Position
The Health Education Coordinator is responsible for assessing community health strengths and needs, identifying community resources to meet those needs, working with community individuals and agencies to develop new resources, and assisting community residents in offering a variety of health-related programs and activities. The Health education Coordinator is also responsible for arranging grant-related opportunities for health science students and public school students interested in the health sciences. Work performed in Hancock County High School and Hancock County Elementary School(s).
Essential Functions
- Provides education in the classroom setting in all areas of life skills.
- Conducts small groups with students in all areas of life skills.
- Attends M-Team meetings when requested by teacher to help develop Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Assists in individual students in addressing social and emotional problems.
- Cooperates with school administration in working with students who are referred by the administration.
- Cooperates with the local juvenile judicial system.
- Attends and participates in staff meeting and other community meetings related to youth.
- Communicates with parents of students who have been referred due to behavior problems developing plan that outlines objectives to be accomplished by the student.
- Performs risk behavior and student response surveys.
Secondary Functions
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of word processing software.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
Supervision Given and Received
Performs under general supervision. Supervisor confers to ensure policies and established practice are followed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology or other related field; three years of experience.
