Function of Position 

Responsible to the Director of Housing for serving as the senior professional responsible for coordinating and directing all functions related to the assignment process, i.e., applications, deposits, billing, contracts, and refunds for all residence halls and apartments; overseeing the department's communication and information systems; developing, updating, and maintaining the application/brochure, lease agreements, office policies and procedures manual, Residence Hall Student Handbook, other university catalogs, and website; coordinating the benchmarking, marketing, strategic planning, and budget matters for the Department of Housing and Residence Life; serving in the absence of the director; and performing other related duties as assigned.

 Essential Functions
 

-Supervises area coordinators, receptionist, student assistants and others as necessary; serves with the director and other senior staff as the central management team in devising, implementing, and evaluating departmental goals, policies, organization, and programs; represents the department on university committees and on special projects as appointed by the director.

-Supervises the housing assignment/lease processes and provides statistical analyses of occupancy; supervises occupancy management and development of projections and trends; counsels with students, parents, and other members of the university community in determining housing needs.

-Supervises the communication of assignment and other services and processes information to all constituents; ensures high level of customer service.

-Coordinates with the comptroller's office in matters of deposits, billing including utilities, Residence Advantage Meal Plan, rent structures, lease agreement, and budget  matters.

-Supervises all aspects of the department's recruitment and marketing for incoming and returning students.

-Coordinates with the Office of Information Technology in the development and maintenance and use of all information systems, RESNET, RLC, website, etc.; integrates, synthesizes, and advances the department's use of technology to improve services, processes, and communication.

-Supervises the housing contract, assignment, and billing process for camps, conferences, and other guests.

-Develops, implements, and supervises all contractual review processes and appeals.

-Supervises the department's opening and closing processes and other department-wide events as needed.

-Supervises the development and update of the housing application and brochure, office policies and procedures manuals, Residence Hall Student Handbook, lease agreements, and other university and department catalogs, bulletins, etc.

-Coordinates the department's research, benchmarking, and strategic planning efforts.

-Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of all departmental budgets.

 

Secondary Functions

 

-Serves in the absence of the director as needed.

-Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

-Knowledge of basic housing administration.

-Knowledge of student development, counseling, human relations, information systems and processing, conflict resolution, management, marketing, budgeting, etc.

-Knowledge of university policies and procedures.

-Knowledge of a residence hall system.

-Ability to communicate with and analyze the performance of a diverse group of residents and employees.

-Ability to mediate and resolve problems.

-Ability to effectively select, train, supervise and evaluate personnel.

-Ability to assess and react in emergency situations.

-Ability to communicate effectively.

-Ability to make, interpret and refine policies and procedures.
-Ability to work in a high stress environment.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision.  Determines own methods of performing assigned work.  Directly supervises administrative and classified employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree required in college student personnel, higher education, management/marketing, business or public administration, or related field of study; progressively responsible positions of leadership, with a minimum of three years of full-time experience in a college/university environment is essential, and, at least two years of working experience in a college/university housing and residence life program is required.
