potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Senior Associate Vice President/Chief Student Affairs Officer for the total operation and management of the Office of Housing and Residence Life; supervising administrative, classified, temporary and student personnel; developing and overseeing housing budgets; developing and directing a comprehensive planning function designed to meet the current and future needs for on-campus housing facilities; insuring the establishment and implementation of student development strategies which optimize a living and learning residential environment; insuring quality maintenance, renovation and cleanliness for all areas of university housing; developing and directing an ongoing customer service initiative to insure maximum satisfaction among residents; coordinating the judicial processes within university housing; managing and overseeing all administrative operations; and performing other related duties as assigned. Essential Functions - Oversees all administrative staffing including the housing office, residence halls and family housing. - Develops the budget for all housing operations in conjunction with the comptroller's office. - Directs all administrative procedures including assignments, supply acquisitions, policies and procedures. - Serves as judicial officer for residence halls and family housing. - Insures all housing safety and security in conjunction with Public Safety and the university safety officer. - Oversees administration of physical facilities including maintenance, renovations, inventories, housekeeping and planning. - Assists students with problems such as roommate conflicts, breaking of contracts, thefts, obscene calls, domestic problems, male/female relations, suicide attempts, multicultural problems, board of claims request, violent behavior, mental problems, dissatisfied residents regarding policies and assignment problems, etc. - Provides supervision and management of housing office staff. - Directs marketing of facilities, programs and services. Secondary Functions - Oversees all housing staff orientation and training. - Directs all residence hall and family housing, and educational, recreational and social programming. - Collects for all residence hall and family housing damages. - Assigns and tracks residents on the Freshman Advantage Program. - Oversees camps and conferences housing. - Gathers and interprets data on occupancy and facilities. - Coordinates with other departments, offices, faculty and staff of the university. - Serves on various university committees. - Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of basic housing administration. - Knowledge of university and housing policies and procedures. - Knowledge of administrative and budget processes. - Knowledge of physical facilities management and maintenance procedures. - Knowledge of the elements of effective supervision. - Ability to evaluate situations and make sound judgements. - Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, faculty and the general public. - Ability to project or forecast university housing needs. Supervision Given and Received Develops own work assignments following established policy and procedures. Directly supervises administrative and classified employees. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree or terminal degree in higher education, business administration, student personnel administration, counseling or related area of concentration; three to five years experience in administration of student housing.
