Function of Position

Responsible to the Project Director for assisting with establishing and training school system teams to assess and develop interventions for preschool through high school students with serious behavior problems; assisting with hiring other project personnel; developing and implementing training modules for participating school system personnel; consulting with school system trainees; supervising project assistants; conducting project evaluations; writing reports based on project activities; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Develops and refines training modules for training school system personnel in assessment and intervention for students with severe behavior problems.

- Implements training modules with school system personnel.

- Consults with school system personnel regarding their application of assessment and intervention methods.

- Conducts project evaluation activities.

- Supervises project graduate assistants in carrying out project evaluation and observation activities.

- Manages and analyzes data resulting from project evaluation activities.

- Coordinates project activities with school systems.

- Serves as liaison to other relevant community programs, agencies, advocacy groups, and families of children with severe behavior problems.

Secondary Functions

- Writes progress reports, conference presentations, and manuscripts for publication based on project activities.

- Manages budget and writes financial reports.

- Assists with hiring and training of graduate assistants.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of developmental and behavioral disabilities.

- Knowledge of behavioral assessment techniques and interventions.

- Knowledge of computers and various software programs.

- Ability to communicate effectively.

- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding information on children with developmental and behavioral disabilities.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in special education or related field (elementary or secondary education, psychology, sociology, social work); one year of classroom teaching experience with preschool, elementary or secondary-aged students or other comparable direct service to children or youth.
