Function of Position

Responsible to the Associate Director of Housing for providing on-campus management and supervision of the residence hall staff and students; providing training, consultation, advisement, mentoring and leadership to Resident Directors and Resident Advisors in the areas of job duties and responsibilities; and performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

- Assists with the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of hall staff.

- Schedules staff for duty coverage; prepares time sheets; conducts regular staff meetings.

- Oversees the opening and closing of halls at the beginning and ending of the semester, breaks, etc.

- Prepares and maintains roster of residents and regularly updates office staff.

- Approves and facilitates room changes within the hall.

- Reports and follows up on maintenance requests.

- Maintains master and room keys inventory; conducts monthly fire drills, room safety inspections, hall lock-up, visitation, etc.

- Reports and maintains files for all records, i.e., student information cards, duty logs, discipline reports, work orders, room and hall changes, visitation cards, occupancy reports, fire drill reports, hall inspections, etc.

- Attends to emergencies/crisis situations such as power outages, fires, maintenance, etc.

- Interprets and administers housing and university policies and procedures.

- Maintains and distributes laundry refund money.

- Coordinates the delivery and pick-up of refrigerators.

- Serves as advisor to Hall Council; recruits, elects, trains and supervises hall council members; conducts hall council meetings; plans and coordinates social, cultural, educational, recreational, personal development hall activities and programs.

- Provides personal, academic and social counseling to residents; provides referral assistance and follow-up to various resources.

- Helps resolve student conflicts; interprets housing rules and regulations; takes action in matters where disciplinary action is appropriate; identifies physical/psychological well-being of students in regard to crisis intervention.

- Acts as official host/hostess for the residence hall; consults with parents regarding resident concerns and problems.

- Prepares and maintains rosters for visiting groups; coordinates check-in and check-out procedures; collects and receipts money.

Secondary Functions

- Attends/transports students to state, regional and national housing conferences.

- Maintains the change machine inventory.

- Facilitates the check-in/out process for Resident Directors and maintains inventory file.

- Coordinates the educational focus of residence life through programming, special interest housing and partnerships with academic departments.

- Assists in the coordination and presentation of programs in alcohol, anger management, conflict resolution, community living, etc., to residents.

- Provides assistance in the advisement of the Resident Hall Association.

- Assists with camps, conferences and guest housing to include scheduling, staffing, facilities, linen, cleaning, billing, etc.

- Assists with orientations and preview programs.

- Assists with fall housing sign-ups.

- Assists with the development and evaluation of residence life programs, services, policies, procedures, management, marketing, etc..

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

- Knowledge of housing and university policies and procedures.

- Knowledge of crisis intervention procedures.

- Knowledge of human relations, counseling, community development.

- Ability to effectively counsel residents.

- Ability to train, consult, advise and lead a residence hall staff.

- Ability to facilitate programming activities and services related to community, academic and personal development.

- Ability to respond to emergency situations.

- Ability to work independently.

Supervision Given and Received

Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; two years experience in residence hall management or related area.
