full potential; Function of Position Responsible to the Chair for providing pre-service and in-service training to new and existing case managers, supervisors, and other staff of the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS) in the Northeastern 14 counties of the state, and occasionally at other locations state-wide; recommending, developing and providing consistent, high quality training to DCS employees; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions - Delivers training classes, as part of a team, to DCS employees in Eastern Tennessee and statewide. - Monitors on-the-job training of DCS employees. - Assists in curriculum evaluation, development, and modification. - Works closely with DCS management staff and faculty and staff of the social work department to ensure training content and delivery are consistent with DCS needs and accepted standards for social work practice. - Assists in the assessment of the suitability of trainees for DCS agency responsibilities.
Secondary Functions - Assists in the evaluation of the effectiveness of individual training sessions, and of the overall employee training program. - Delivers computer-based or web-based instruction. - Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge of professional social work practice and social work education, including field education. - Knowledge of child protective services, foster care, and adoption services policies and practice. - Knowledge of adult pedagogy. - Knowledge of state government agency environments and culture. - Knowledge of academic environments and culture. - Ability to communicate effectively. - Ability to conduct effective classes and on-the-job training for adult professionals. - Ability to develop, modify, and evaluate curricula. - Ability to translate and adapt material from training for trainers for presentation to DCS staff in a classroom setting, or on the job.
Supervision Given and Received Performs under general supervision. Determines own methods of performing assigned work.
Minimum Qualifications BSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program; MSW preferred; two years of experience in child protective services, foster care, or adoptive services, in either a public or private agency; some familiarity with adult pedagogy. |
