Community Cancer Control in
Appalachia Forum
As part of the Comprehensive
Cancer Control Plans Implementation in Appalachian
Communities Program, the Community Cancer Control in
Appalachia Forum was conducted in October 2007. Appalachian
communities and comprehensive cancer control coalitions (CCCCs)
with state representatives engaged in discussion to clarify
issues about regional characteristics and identify ways to
move “From plan …to implementation … to partnerships” in
Appalachia.
The Forum provided an
opportunity for communities and state cancer plan and
coalition representatives to identify how greater engagement
can address key CDC guidance issues. Small groups elaborated
several issues. Several best practices in community cancer
control presented their ideas. ETSU faculty summarized
findings of the Appalachian cultural influences on cancer,
use of cancer care and participation in community cancer
control activities.
