In 1992 East Tennessee State University began a relationship with the W. K. Kellogg Foundation to introduce a new approach to higher education. The Foundation wished to promote a greater role for communities in preparing health professionals. From this beginning, the university has engaged through partnerships surrounding communities in a transformation effort over the last 11 years.

Operating a cost effective model that expands educational resources by addressing community-identified issues and opportunities in health and many other disciplines.
