Steve Brown, Ph.D., Director

After more than twenty years as a Georgia Bulldog, where he served as Director of the Counseling and Testing Center, Steve learned where the really good University was and is the new Director of ETSU’s Counseling Center.  Steve completed his graduate work at Oklahoma State University.  He has been active professionally at both state and national levels, and has been honored to serve as President of the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors and as Chair of the American College Personnel Association’s Commission on Counseling and Psychological Services.  His greatest enjoyment is working with students through counseling and teaching.  It is his belief that all students would benefit from availing themselves of Counseling Center services as they help students find happiness in living in much the same way that academics help students prepare for the working world.   He has special interests in helping students learn to make positive decisions, particularly in relation to “best fit” occupations and lifestyles.  Steve is also interested in working with individuals and couples on relationship issues.  He often challenges people as to where they learned to have good relationships.  Steve’s hope is that every ETSU student will utilize the Counseling Center to help improve the quality of their life experience.

Erickson, M.D., and is interested in continuing his pragmatic, solution-focused and action-oriented psychotherapy with emphasis on client strengths and skills.  Like him, she believes in the snowball effect of small change.  Dr. Henley also received training from Eric Berne and Virginia Satir; uses concepts and techniques from Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy, and Rogerian Client-centered Psychotherapy.  Her special mental health interests:  discovering and promoting skills needed for coping with stress, managing anxiety, resolving interpersonal difficulties, optimizing performance and achieving happiness.
