Approval of March minutes

The minutes for March 29, 2010 were approved with no corrections.

 Curriculum Subcommittee report and recommendations – Dr. Martha Pointer. 

  1. New Course Proposal – GRAD 5110, Teaching Pedagogy for the Graduate Teaching Assistant

 

The subcommittee recommended approval with the following:

 

The proposed course will provide Graduate Teaching Assistants with the teaching tools and techniques.  Course complements discipline-specific Supervised Experience in Teaching.

  1. Update the Required Textbook with the 2011 edition (13th).

           

  1. Substantive Curriculum Modification – Articulation agreement for the MD and MPH programs

The subcommittee recommended approval with the following:

The proposed curriculum modification will allow students in the Quillen College of Medicine to obtain an MPH degree in conjunction with the MD degree.

Approved with the following changes:
A.        Remove “probably” from the last sentence in the first paragraph of page 4.
B.        Change “and” to “although” in the first sentence of the third paragraph of page 4.
C.        Remove the word “partly” from the last sentence of the fourth paragraph of page 4.
D.        Rewrite the last phrase of the last sentence of the fifth paragraph of page 4.
E.        Remove the extra page in the proposal (page 11).
F.         Change the projected percentages on page 12 to “73 – 93.”

  1. Five-Part Curriculum Proposal – MA in New Media Studio

 

The subcommittee recommended approval with the following:

            The proposed curriculum revision will replace the MA Art.  (MFA Art, and DIGM concentration in MS Technology are unchanged).  The proposal consists of a substantial revision of the curriculum; a revision of admission, retention, and graduation requirements; a termination of the concentrations of Art History and Studio Art; a re-titling of a degree; and a change in the management location.

Approved with the following changes:
            A.        On page 4, spell out the accrediting agency (NASAD).
            B.        On page 4, italicize the “Occupational Outlook Handbook” in the fourth paragraph of age 4.
C.        Correct “free lance” to “freelance.”

  1. New Course Proposal – NMST 5000, Foundations in New Media Studio

 

The subcommittee recommended approval with the following:

            This course is the first course in the new MA in New Media Studio.  It will allow all students to have a common basis from which to start the program.

            Approved with the following changes:
            A.        Correct the spelling of “Explore” in the first goal of the course on the Syllabus.
            B.        Edit the Required Textbook to include only the Hickey text.
            C.        Move the Barrett book to the Required Textbook section.
            D.        Correct the Thames and Hudson links and add the book titles and authors.
            E.        Edit the Bibliography by removing the category “Books to order” and removing the last three lines.

  1. New Course Proposal – NMST 5100, Graduate Seminar

 

The subcommittee recommended approval with the following:

This new course will be required three times for graduation and will allow students to discuss and present topics in new media.

            A.        Add the information that the course is repeatable and is required to be completed three times for graduation in the Course Description.
            B.        Add the Required Textbook.
            C.        Correct the Bibliography by correcting the web links and removing the last three lines.
           

  1. New Course Proposal – NMST 5950, New Media Studio Capstone

 

The subcommittee recommended approval with the following:

The proposal is the capstone course in the New Media Studio program.

            Approved with the following changes:
            A.        Correct the goal of the course by removing the “s” from “goals” and re-wording the goal to something like “to prepare the student for his or her ….”
            B.        Remove the information under Required Textbook.
            C.        Remove the Bibliography information.

  1. New Course Proposal – ARTA 4617/5617, Site-Specific and Installation Art

 

The subcommittee recommended approval with the following:

            This proposal is for a new course in site-specific and installation art.  No existing course covers this material.  The course has been offered as an experimental course several times.

            A.        Include a statement about the higher expectations for graduate students.

Online course and program delivery – new technologies, approval route –

Dr. Karen King (ATS) gave a Power Point presentation of the online course and program delivery of new technologies and the approval routes.
