Statistical Software Support

ETSU purchases three statistical packages for use by faculty and staff: SAS, Minitab, and SPSS. If licenses are available, any of these packages can be installed on an employee's ETSU-owned desktop or laptop computer. To request installation, please contact the OIT helpdesk (phone: 439-4648, email: ).  They will forward your request to Academic Technology Services, and we'll get in touch with you to arrange a convenient time.

Training

In addition to installation, Academic Technology offers training sessions in the use of these packages. We periodically schedule workshops on different topics in SPSS, since that package is the most widely-used on campus, but one-on-one sessions and ad hoc group sessions are also available.

SPSS typically produces a new version of its software every year, and it's deployed on campus at the beginning of Fall Term. The current version on campus is version 19. SPSS is available for Mac computers as well as Windows computers.

Licensing

ETSU purchases the licenses for these packages on an annual basis. That means that at some point during the year, the license will expire and the package will cease to function unless the re-licensing information is applied. We typically transmit the license renewal information to SPSS users on campus around mid-July; for SAS, it's mid-January. Minitab operates a bit differently, because it continually receives its license information from a campus license server.

If you have any of these packages on your computer and they're displaying 'license expired' messages when launched, please contact the OIT helpdesk (phone: 439-4648, email: ).
