Stewart McCorkle Education Assistance Award

Part-time Student Grant

The Stewart McCorkle Education Assistance Award is a grant given by the ETSU at Kingsport Advisory Council. The grant is for adult students with family and work responsibilities who are interested in obtaining a Bachelor’s degree on a part-time basis. Only students who do not qualify for Federal Financial Aid, as determined by the ETSU Office of Financial Aid, will be eligible for this award. The grant will support one student until they obtain their Bachelor’s degree or for six years, whichever occurs first. The student must enroll part-time both fall and spring semesters, each academic year, with the summer semester being optional. The student will be limited to 22 credit hours per year. The student must also maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. If for some reason the grade point average is below 2.5 for one semester, the student must make at least a 2.5 the next semester to prevent their grant from being terminated.

This award will be for undergraduate students only. Students from out-of-state are welcome to apply, but will receive tuition amounts at the in-state rate only. Students applying for this scholarship should initially be ETSU at Kingsport Students.

Each student supported by this grant will meet with the chairperson of the scholarship committee and the ETSU at Kingsport Director each semester for a progress report.

To apply for the Stewart McCorkle Education Assistance Award, students must complete the attached application and submit a letter to the Director of ETSU at Kingsport stating the reasons why he/she should be the recipient of the grant. A background of work experience, references from current employers, family obligations, previous education, career goals, and intended college major must be included.
