2013 Renaissance Camp
Preliminary Schedule & Descriptions

Renaissance Child Science Discovery Camp: A Journey to the Center of the Earth and Beyond   ***New

June 3 – 7                                          Ages 6 – 12

Description:

This camp will provide exciting experiences as we discover the wonderful world of earth science! Volcanoes will be exploding, crystal gardens will be growing and a tornado might even touch down! Campers will have the opportunity to make their own edible "rocks "and participate in many other wacky science experiments. Come join us for a fun and action packed week!

Computer Camp for Teens

June 3 - 7                                           Ages 11 – 15

Description:

Campers will discover visual effect techniques through the use of videography, green screen compositing, and effects compositing! Students will assemble their effects clips as a demo reel!

Science & Forensics Camp - ****A long time favorite!

June 10 – 14                                       Ages 11- 15

Description:

Participants in this camp will become members of the elite Renaissance Camp CSI unit! The campers will receive an introduction to some of the scientific testing and techniques used in the study of forensic science. They will learn how to identify different blood types and perform fiber analysis. The campers will extract DNA and create a model of a cell. Participants will also learn about gathering evidence as they solve a mock crime scene. Activities will be led by the Renaissance Camp staff with special presentations by local law enforcement agencies, members of the ETSU faculty and other experts in the field of forensics. Participants in this camp will have the opportunity to go a field trip to the American Museum of Atomic Energy in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Digital Media Camp

June 10 -14                                         High School

Description:

Students in this camp will discover digital imaging manipulation techniques through the use of photographs. Students will also use still imagery to create animated and visually realistic video clips. They will then assemble their creations as a demo reel!

Renaissance Child Superhero Week   ***New

June 17 – 22                                        Ages 6 – 12

Description:

Campers will use their creative powers to develop an original superhero. They will decide which special qualities their character will possess, where it would go and what it would do. The participants will then design a 3-D model of their superhero. The campers will also develop a formula for a bouncy ball and participate in some other "oozy goozy" science fun. There will be many other exciting activities that will all add up to one super duper week!

 

Renaissance Child Exploration Camp     ***New

June 24 -28                                          Ages    6 - 12

Description:

During this camp, we will be exploring the fields of science, technology and the arts. Campers will become super science sleuths as they discover the principles behind some really cool chemical reactions build cotton ball catapults and make simple electrical circuits. The children will have the opportunity to express their unique creative styles as they experience a variety of different art medium and techniques. This will include painting, drawing, sculpting, and recycle art. Campers will also have the opportunity to work in one of the computer labs and create a book of original stories.. There will be many more topics to explore and all learning in the 'guise of fun!

Renaissance Child Imagination Station    ***New

July 8 – July 13                                   Ages   6 – 12

Description:

This camp is the place to come to let your imagination run wild and dream big dreams! Everyone has a story to tell, the campers will be encouraged to tell, write and illustrate theirs They will be able to participate in group activities that will develop creative drama techniques and stretch their imaginations. The campers will have the opportunity to write their stories in the computer lab. They will make puppets and masks to help bring their tale to life. The campers will also participate in some of the Renaissance Camp's crazy science experiments, it takes a big dreamer to become a "mad" scientist! The week will culminate with the campers' presentation of their puppet shows and stories to their families and friends.

Art, Music and Drama Camp

July 8 – July 19                                   Ages 10 – 15  

This camp is guaranteed to bring out the thespian in the participants. Campers will collaborate in writing, staging and performing an original play. They will receive instruction in some of the basic acting techniques. The campers will design the sets and costumes, and choreograph dance routines for their play. They will present their play to their family and friends at the end of the camp. Also included will be a trip to Barter Theater in Abingdon, VA

Science and Engineering Camp

July 22 – 26                                        Ages 11 – 15

Participants in this camp will explore the fields of physics and engineering by taking part in a variety of hands- on and interactive projects. Some of the projects will include building and launch their own hydro rocket and designing roller coasters. They will also have opportunity to work in the robotics lab on campus. The participants will have the opportunity to take a field trip to Wonder Works in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Renaissance Child Construction Zone Camp      ***Back by Popular Demand! 

July 29 – August 2                              Ages 6 - 12

It is time to get your hard hats on; you are truly entering a construction zone! The campers will be designing and building their own contraptions, gizmos, and gadgets from recycled materials. The campers will be introduced to the basic laws of physics and engineering as they explore how things work and what it takes to build a strong structure. The week will culminate with the annual "Renaissance Kid's Trade Show", where the campers will display their creations.
